The 256 Alger Street building is located on Grand Rapid’s Southeast side between Madison and Division just north of the 28th street corridor in the Garfield Park neighborhood and adjacent to the thriving Alger Heights neighborhood.  The 2.6 acres site with a lot of green space surrounding the property features a hard surface and grass play area tucked in a courtyard behind the building.  There are two separate parking lots with separate driveways to help with drop-off and pick-up operation.  The east side of the site has an additional grass area that could become additional playground area or possibly expanded parking.  Additionally, there are two storage sheds on this site.

Built in multiple phases with the latest in 1998 and 2011, the fully air-conditioned building is approximately 20,000 square feet and features 8 classrooms, 2 media rooms (separated by folding wall that can open into one large room), and 3 modular units; combining for 13 classroom size spaces for programming.  A 14th space is possible with the recombination of office spaces into a classroom.  The gymnasium has a 20’-10” ceiling clearance, line kit for basketball and volleyball (with volleyball sleeves) and at the back of the gym is an at-grade stage area that is great hosting events and for storing tables and chairs during the day.

The food preparation room has a three-compartment sink, hand wash sink, additional single compartment sink, fire suppressed range hood, and gas hookup (no range).  The room also has an 8 foot wide serving window into the gym space.

The building features 4 rooms totaling approximately 850 square feet for staff office or student services use as well as approximately 525 square feet of administrative office and front desk space to greet students, parents, and guests.
